Spring Break

Hello...it seems like forever since I have updated with any real important stuff. And to be honest, nothing really important has happened since I last wrote. Go figure. However, since I am a teacher, and I do get these glorious times off--I work hard for them mind you, I will write about Spring Break. Let me just say, I love my breaks. Boy did I need it!
On Friday I came home and worked diligently to prepare for Erik's mom and dad. They came in late Friday and spent the weekend with us. Now, poor Erik had been sick, out of work for 3 days, and on antibiotics by Friday morning. It was also his birthday. So he was as much as help as could be expected. I wondered how that was going to go. It was great. Mom and Dad came in, the puppies went beezerk--this is normal. More on that later. We rested and that was that. On Saturday I had to go let my sister's puppies out (they were at the beach for a wedding). On my way home I stopped by a yard sale just looking around. I found a really nice wing-backed chair with Queen Anne legs for $15! It's got a nice pattern and just needed a little cleaning. It was in really good shape! I also got a huge container of books for my classroom--good deal! I got $21 worth, and most look practically brand-new! A ton of hardbacks too! Woot woot! I love a deal! Then, Dad, Mom, and I began to work on my Momma's old kitchen table. This table is the one my Momma grew up on. Grandaddy Byars rolled out many a pie crust on this table. Well, Momma gave it to me (I told her it is was mine, so technically she really didn't give it, but that's what you do with 4 other kids in the family). Anyway, it is over 70 years old and had seen better days. I love an antique, or almost antiques in this case. We decided on a finish. Antique Walnut. It is a maple table and we used a Walnut finish! Ha ha ha !! Oh well, it's beautious! Dad and I had already sanded it down a while back and it was ready for a coat of stain and poly! I love it!
FYI: I love to paint furniture. Not walls, but furniture. There is something about seeing that "thing" transform right before your eyes. It's so relaxing to me. I really get a sense of satisfaction from this. I had never stained anything (not on purpose!!) and this was just like painting. Ah, I think I could have a new hobby. Well, we went to dinner for Erik's birthday Saturday night--Texas Road House, yum yum! We even watched The Count of Monti Cristo. I had never seen it. I had never read the book either. It was the version with Jim Caviezal--Passion of the Christ actor. It was good except I missed the last 15 minutes of it. On Sunday we headed off to church. I had the kids, so I missed worship this week. But I enjoyed myself with them. I got to worship in the back, so that was a good substitute! We got home that afternoon and put the table and chair in the Alli Room upstairs. I am so happy because I now have my own private space, except for the cats. They think it's the Cat room. Wrong boys, it's Momma's room! I am going to work on it this week to get it all set up. When I do, pictures will be on here!
Monday, I decided to do the gym thing with Melissa (lissa to me). I must have lost my bloomin' mind. I only did half of the workout class with her and I was dying! Holy cow! Anyway, I went back today and I really enjoyed the workout. She is going to get me to do the cycling class with her on Thursday. She is insane. She thinks I am doing the strength training class tomorrow too. I don't know what she's thinkin'! I'll take the eliptical and other stuff first!
Well, that is it for now. See, nothing too fancy or amazing is going on. I am just enjoying my time away from school. I hope my summer is just like this.
How many more days until June 5th? I can't wait!
